After a spectacular drop in 2010, the number of truck thefts in Austria – including loaded trailers - has gone up again in 2011, according to new data now released by the Austrian Interior Ministry in a written answer to a parliamentary question. A total of 276 thefts have been notified to police last year – 53 more than in 2010. Back in 2009, no less than 802 stolen trucks had been recorded. The wider region of Vienna was the place where most of the vehicles (126) went missing in 2011. Austrian police do not collect specific data on cargo theft in the country but provide only general truck theft figures. These include incidents where loaded vehicles were stolen.
