Beijing’s busiest cargo and passenger airport, Capital International Airport, was closed on Monday December 5 because of thick smog and weather. The smog is created from the heavy pollution that Beijing suffers and caused hundreds of cancelled flights. On Monday, Beijing’s air quality was labeled as “hazardous” by the U.S. Embassy’s air monitoring equipment. If Beijing’s pollution problem is not addressed, the smog could continue to cause flight cancellations and affect its cargo traffic.
