Northern Italy suffered a 5.8 magnitude earthquake on May 29, just nine days after a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck in the same region. At least 15 people were killed and more than 200 injured after the most recent quake. The towns of Mirandola and Cavezzo in the Modena province were closest to the earthquake’s center. Many buildings and structures in the area were damaged or destroyed. Northern Italy is a major industrial hub, and several of the country’s factories were damaged from the earthquake. Train traffic has slowed and companies transporting goods through this area should expect delays and disruptions.
