National and Indefinite Blockades in Bolivia

Earlier this morning, November 29, Bolivian truckers initiated an indefinite blockade in several departments of Bolivia including La Paz, Oruro, Santa Cruz, Cochabamba and Chuquisaca.According to the president of the Bolivian Chamber of International Transport, the blockades will not be lifted until government review and modify taxes and fines for the regularization of trailers and semi-trailers in Bolivia. Truckers are also demanding the cancellation of certain customs policies that have been causing delays and increasing transportation costs. Companies with operations in Bolivia should remain alert since truck drivers are threatening further roads and border crossing blockades until the Government agrees to amend the custom taxes and fines for the regularization of trailers. The president of the Bolivian Chamber of International Transport also told media that tomorrow morning, Wednesday, November 30, truckers will block the border crossing points of Tambo Quemado (Bolivia-Chile border crossing); Yacuiba (Bolivia-Argentina border); and Desaguadero (Bolivia-Peru border).
