On Tuesday February 28, major trade and bank unions are holding a one day nationwide protest against privatization. The strike is expected to draw millions of participants and affect the daily activities of the banking, postal service, telecom, transportation, and industrial industries. The government has taken steps to ensure that the trains, trams, and buses run as normal, however, these modes of transportation could be affected by protest blockades. The Indian government has also warned government employees that they cannot take the day off and if they do, they could be subject to a pay cut or a break in service. The largest protests are expected in the states of Assam, Kerala, Haryana, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and Bihar.
