A daytime truck ban will take place in Metro Manila from May 2nd to 5th. Large cargo and delivery trucks will not be permitted to travel within the city on these days from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m. Trucks hauling perishable goods including food and ice will be exempt from the ban. The truck ban is taking place to reduce traffic congestion within the city during the 45th Asian Development Bank meeting. In order to protect the trucks and cargo that will be sitting idle during the extended truck ban, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will increase mobile patrol units. The MMDA will also coordinate with the police to designate parking areas and ensure that trucks are given more leniencies with regard to where they park while they are grounded. On May 6th trucks will have to comply with the city’s regular truck ban, which spans 6-9 a.m. and 5-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
