On Tuesday January 31, hundreds of police officers in the city of Salvador, Bahia state, began a strike demanding better working conditions and higher salaries. Companies and carriers operating in the state of Bahia and specially near the city of Salvador, should take precautions since the number of assaults, roadblocks, robberies and other criminal activities in the city have risen dramatically over the past days. Approximately, 88 murders have been reported in Bahia since the strike began. Today, about 3,500 soldiers deployed to bring the situation under control.
